Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 16, 2026
Introduction
DeadWax ("we", "our", or "us") builds and operates the DeadWax iOS application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the App.
We believe your data is yours. DeadWax is designed with a privacy-first approach — we collect as little information as possible and never sell your data to third parties.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
DeadWax does not require you to create an account or provide personal information to use the App. Your record collection, wantlists, and any notes you add are stored locally on your device.
Information collected automatically
- Crash & diagnostic reports — we may receive anonymous, aggregated crash data through Apple's built-in crash reporting service. These reports contain technical information about the crash (device model, OS version, stack traces) but no personally identifiable information.
- App usage analytics — we may collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (e.g., which screens are visited most often) to improve the user experience. No personal data or collection contents are included. (Placeholder — update with the specific analytics provider and opt-out details once finalized.)
Information we do not collect
- Names, email addresses, or other contact details (unless you email us directly)
- Location data
- Advertising identifiers
- The contents of your record collection
How We Use Information
Any information we do collect is used solely to:
- Diagnose and fix bugs and crashes
- Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve the App
- Respond to support requests you initiate
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to operating and improving DeadWax.
Purchases & Subscriptions
DeadWax may offer optional in-app purchases or subscriptions to unlock premium features. All transactions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details (credit card numbers, billing address, etc.).
Apple may share a transaction receipt with us that includes a transaction ID and product identifier — this is used only to verify and activate your purchase. For details on how Apple handles payment data, see Apple's Privacy Policy.
Analytics
We may use privacy-focused analytics tools to understand how the App is used at an aggregate level. If analytics are enabled, the data collected is anonymous and cannot be linked back to individual users.
Placeholder — specify the analytics provider (e.g., TelemetryDeck, Apple App Analytics, or none) once a decision is made. Include opt-out instructions here if applicable.
Third-Party Services
To provide rich album metadata — cover artwork, track listings, credits, and release details — the App may connect to third-party services, including:
- Discogs — a community-built music database. API requests are made directly from your device. Discogs may log standard request data (IP address, user-agent) as described in their privacy policy.
We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of any third-party services referenced above. We are not responsible for their practices.
Placeholder — add any additional third-party services (image CDNs, barcode lookup APIs, etc.) once integration is finalized.
Data Retention
Since your collection data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times:
- Deleting the App permanently removes all locally stored data unless you have backed it up through iOS device backups or iCloud.
- Crash and analytics data, if collected, is retained only as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy and is then deleted or anonymised.
- Support emails you send us are retained for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry, plus a reasonable period afterward for reference.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Request access to any personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time (where processing is based on consent)
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority
Because DeadWax stores data locally and does not maintain user accounts, we generally do not hold personal data on our servers. If you have questions about your rights, contact us and we'll do our best to help.
Children's Privacy
DeadWax is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not require an account or personal details, children can use it without providing any identifying information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
